Major Bitcoin Theft Reported at DMM Bitcoin Exchange
A recent incident at DMM Bitcoin, a prominent Japanese digital currency platform, has resulted in the loss of 48 billion yen ($305 million) worth of bitcoin (BTC) in a significant cyberattack. This theft ranks as the second largest in Japan’s history, following the infamous Coincheck hack in 2018.
Insights into the Cyberattack
According to a statement on the official website of DMM Bitcoin, hackers managed to steal a substantial 4,502.9 BTC from the exchange. The perpetrators cleverly divided the stolen bitcoin into 10 different wallets, each containing 500 BTC, as revealed by security firm Blocksec.
