The Influence of Violence on Screen: Emphasizing Quality Over Quantity
At 74 years old, Macy emphasized the significance of portraying a single act of violence on screen as highly impactful. However, he argued that depicting multiple deaths diminishes the effect and becomes gratuitous. “When you have 18 people being killed, it’s simply excessive. The only way to heighten the drama is by increasing the body count,” he commented.
