NEW ORLEANS: The city has released an online calculator to help property owners estimate how a 2027 property tax roll forward would change their bills, as the City Council weighs millage rate adjustments.

The tool, published October 1, lets owners enter their property market value, location, property type, homestead exemption status, and land and building market values, then shows the estimated change in the yearly tax and the illustrative monthly amount under the selected millages.

The release carries a formal notice: the council will hold a public hearing November 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the council chamber, Room 1E07 of City Hall at 1300 Perdido St., to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval, or adopting adjusted millage rates after reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year maximum authorized millage rates.

The notice puts numbers on the question. The estimated amount of tax revenues to be collected in the next tax year from the increased millage is $297,337,596.11, compared with $255,082,640.68 in tax revenues for the current year, an increase of $42,254,955.43 attributable to the millage increase.

For scale, the city adopted a total fiscal year 2026 operating budget of approximately $1,592,417,236.

The calculator cautions that monthly amounts are shown for illustration, and that taxes paid through an escrow account would be reflected in future mortgage payments after the escrow is recalculated.

The tool is one of several the city says it has published at nola.gov/millages to inform residents about their property tax bills as the council considers the roll forward.
