Government Initiates Investigation into Post Office Software Used by Subpostmasters in the 1990s
The government has initiated an inquiry into the Post Office software known as the Capture system, which was utilized by subpostmasters in the 1990s before the introduction of the Horizon system. The purpose of this investigation is to determine if the Capture system may have led to wrongful prosecutions of subpostmasters.
Developed by the Post Office, the Capture system was a PC-based application that subpostmasters installed on their personal computers to manage their accounts. In contrast to the complex Horizon system, which is networked, Capture was a standalone system described by some users as a “simplified spreadsheet.”
